PROGRAM DESCRIPTION, SUMMARY AND OUTLINE This workshop which is updated every two months, is designed to examine specific psychiatric conditions, their etiology, the diagnostic phases of treatment, types of medications used, their side effects and information necessary for the clinician to make decisions as to the need for a referral for medication initiation, re-evaluation or discontinuation.
Basic medication doses and treatment strategies will also be covered. It is the non-medical clinician that often sits on the front lines working on a continuous basis with clients. The clinician is crucially involved in monitoring the client's symptomatology and response to medications and treatment interventions. Every clinician today needs to know the basics:
- When do meds work
- When are medications contraindicated
- What are the direct effects of a medication
- What are the side effects of a medication
- When do you need to refer for medications
- What should a client know about medication
- Are there alternatives to medications
- What are the possible etiologies of disorder
